Materiały Zachodnioporskie is a journal of the National Museum in Szczecin which is published annually.

The mission of the journal is to disseminate knowledge about the past of Pomerania and the Baltic Sea basin, introduce new sources and results of research, inform about science and cultural events in the region, and about scientific publications on Pomerania.

The journal has been published since 1957 (for the year 1955), since 1964 as Materiały Zachodnio-Pomorskie, since 1965 (volume X) under the corrected title Materiały Zachodniopomorskie and since 2004 under the same title in the New Series (Nowa Seria).

I. General Provisions

1. Materiały Zachodniopomorskie (hereinafter referred to as “journal”) is an annual journal which appears for a given year in the following year, in the form of one volume. A volume might comprise of several books.

2. The journal is published by the National Museum in Szczecin (hereinafter referred to as “MNS”).

3. The standard form of the journal is a paper version.

4. The journal has a website: www.mzp.muzeum.szczecin.pl, in Polish and English, where general rules, editorial guidelines and content of archival volumes is presented.

5. Articles in the journal are published in Polish and in foreign languages. Research papers shall include key words in Polish and English, abstracts and summaries in English, and in case of texts in a foreign language, also in Polish.

6. The journal consists of the following sections: Studies and Materials, Discoveries, Reviews and Discussions, Bibliography of Western Pomerania, Chronicle in which are published:
a. studies and materials in the fields of archaeology, history, art history, numismatics, ethnology and related fields, as well as interdisciplinary studies;
b. information on current discoveries, primarily in the fields of prehistoric, medieval and contemporary archaeology, as well as other disciplines listed in section I.6.a;
c. reviews of the most important scientific literature on Pomerania and the Baltic Sea basin;
d. bibliography of scientific and popular science publications on West Pomerania, including works in the field of archaeology and other disciplines listed in section I.6.a;
e. chronicle of science events as well as cultural and popularizing science activities (and for  popularization of science).

7. Articles in Studies and Materials are peer-reviewed.

II. Editorial board

1. The journal has a collegial editorial board consisting of: editor-in-chief, editorial assistant and editorial staff, and the Scientific Council which is an advisory body.

2. The editor-in-chief is appointed by the director of MNS for a period of five years, with a possibility of extending for next terms. The editor-in-chief manages editorial work.

3. The editorial assistant and the editorial staff are appointed by the director of the MNS in agreement with the editor-in-chief. The tasks of the editorial team include categorization of papers at the initial stage and formulation of conclusions and proposals for the editor-in-chief.

4. The Scientific Council is appointed by the director of the MNS in agreement with the editor-in-chief for a period of five years. Researchers from Polish and foreign research centres as well as museums are invited to become members. The Scientific Council defines and reviews the most important directions and development of the journal.

5. The seat of the editorial board is located in the National Museum in Szczecin.

III. Editorial rules

1. Editorial requirements are published on the journal website, indicated in section I.4.

2. Articles in the Studies and Materials section are peer-reviewed, subject to confidentiality and anonymity, according to the principles of double blind reviews. A list of the reviewers is prepared for each volume and published on the website. A list of all the reviewers on the website is updated once a year.

3. Articles are accepted for publication after receiving positive reviews.

4. The reviewers’ comments and opinions are sent to the authors of the articles with a due date of return of the corrected and supplemented paper in accordance with the reviewers’ guidelines.

5. By submitting paper to the editorial board of the journal, authors testify that the paper is their work. The editorial board tries to prevent cases of ghostwriting and guest authorship, recognizing them as a manifestation of scientific misconduct.

6. The authors of the papers are subject to the provisions of the “Copyright and Related Rights Act”.

7. Authors whose papers have been accepted for publication shall sign a license agreement by virtue of which they: consent to transfer any authorship property rights without charge to the publisher for unlimited time and with no territorial limit of use of the full article or any of its parts; authorize the publisher to exercise the moral rights to edit the work and make it publicly available; waive the fee for the published article.

8. Authors shall receive a copy of the journal and an electronic version of their article.
